The Republic of North Macedonia, to protect its nationals abroad, has concluded international social security agreements with other countries. Those agreements facilitate the nationals of the Republic of North Macedonia employed or staying abroad as well as to their family members to exercise their rights on work- or insurance abroad- base and thus to exercise certain forms of social security (pension and health insurance and etc.).
The Unit for Implementation of International Agreements within the Professional Service of the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund of North Macedonia – Central Office Skopje is competent for implementation of the procedure regarding enforcement of international social security agreements. The following authorized regional unites of the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund of North Macedonia are competent for enforcement of the Social Security Agreements concluded between the Republic of North Macedonia and Former Yugoslav Republics, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro:
– Branch offices in Skopje, Bitola, Kumanovo, Prilep, Veles, Stip, Tetovo, Gostivar, Strumica, Gevgelija, Probistip, Kocani, Kriva Palanka, Berovo, Ohrid, Struga, Delcevo, Kavadarci, Resen and Kicevo.
The Republic of Macedonia since its independence has concluded and implements Social Security Agreements with the following countries:
– Agreement with the Republic of Croatia, entered into force on 01.11.1997;
– Convention with Austria, entered into force on 01.04.1998;
– Agreement with Turkey, entered into force on 01.07.2000;
– Agreement with the Republic of Slovenia, entered into force on 01.04.2001;
– Convention with Switzerland, entered into force on 1.1.2002;
– Agreement with SR Yugoslavia, entered into force on 1.4.2002;
– Agreement with the Republic of Bulgaria, entered into force on 01.08.2003;
– Agreement with FR Germany, entered into force on 01.01.2005;
